4th of July and More Firsts!

With the anniversary of our nation's independence upon us, what better way to celebrate than by dressing Ami up in patriotic attire and putting a big bow on her head for a photo shoot?  Before we even got started, this is how she told me she felt about it...

Goodness!! She must be her mother's daughter...
(not a morning person ;)

Speaking of her mother, more of the same....

(yuck!)

At our shower in Michigan, Carrie got an adorable outfit that I had secretly hoped we'd be able to use.  Nobody wishes for an early baby, but since I knew I'd have been 39 weeks along on the 4th of July, I was hoping Amelie would make her appearance by then so she could don this adorable little number ;)

Our attempted photo shoot...
She loves to stretch out that string bean leg! ;)

The best one :)

I think she's had enough of the huge headband
(which isn't actually huge, her head is just tiny!)

Round 2 w/ a smaller headband...

 Unimpressed ;)

Swaddled since she was getting cold...

Being a model is hard work!! Back to comfy clothes ;)

First bath!

Since her cord stump had fallen off 2 1/2 days before, and since she was about to have her newborn pictures taken, we decided it was about time for Amelie to have her very first bath.  You may recall that she had not been bathed in the hospital, as we preferred for her to keep her "protective force field" of vernix and amniotic fluid.  It protected her skin in the hospital but had surely worn off by now, so we loaded up the baby tub with warm water and brought it out on our covered patio where it was nice and warm for her!

Not sure what to think...

Babies are slippery! Daddy held her while Mama washed.

Even the newborn sling is pretty big for her...

She didn't mind me dumping water over her eyes!

Snuggled up in her hoodie towel

She has a flavor ;)

All clean & refreshed!

Refreshed for a little while, at least!

Since her cord stump fell off, that meant she would be able to use her cloth diapers soon!  But before she could do that, they required prepping.  In order to get all that taken care of, I put Amelie in the sling and wore her around the house as I nested.

She seemed to be content!

Lots of fluffy butts just waiting to be worn
Though many won't fit until she's 10 lbs.

We'll get started with these!
Newborn custom fitteds made by Jessica Kaiser <3
(KC calls them "pretty diapers" :)

After that, we had a visitor!  Marge Pellegrino came to meet Amelie and to bring her a gift. Yay!

Marge is an author of children's books and director of the awesome Owl & Panther Project, which I refer many of my clients to.  She brought Amelie two great books from local Tucson authors!

And they're first editions, personally autographed to Ami!! <3
 Thanks, Marge and O&P!

KC had been napping when Marge visited, but later that day he woke up and gave Amelie a bottle so I could get a little bit of rest before he went to work.

After he left for the night, Dexter was getting into mischief.  I caught him on the counter (for the first time ever!) and was livid!  Took me forever to realize why he was up there... He saw a bug on the ceiling and was hell bent on getting it! (or at least trying!)

Zuri trying to get her own bugs

But this was just ridiculous defiance!!

So I put tin foil on the counter top.
I heard him jump up and right back down.
Shooting laser beams at me. He wasn't a fan.

Well, we don't eat at the table, so I wasn't going to push this one...

Dexter making nice a bit later:

 Even later that night...

Dex & Ami snuggling it up!
It must be hard for them not getting attention...
